– A vehicle which is not in full running condition, requires special treatment.  Only certain car carriers are equipped with winches in order to load these vehicles.

– Accident-damaged vehicles can only be transported if the body of the vehicle does not touch the tyres, and if the wheels can turn in alignment with the steering wheel. 

– If the vehicle is a wreck, it is possible that it could not be transported on a car carrier.  For these vehicles, a low-bed or roll-back truck would be a good choice.

– Some companies will refuse to accept vehicles older than say 15 years  (especially on a depot-to-depot basis). This is seen as a risk for the carrier company, as vehicles are booked in at the depot, and might only be transported after a few days (as soon as a space becomes available on a carrier).  Batteries or tyres tend to go flat, and sometimes oil leaks only become known when cars are being transported (damaging other cars on the load, or other vehicles on the road). 

– Vintage or exotic cars require special treatment (lower ramps, insurance etc). There are a few companies which specialise in transporting these vehicles.
