Costs of Car Transport
– Costs vary a lot, as it is linked to distance and diesel prices (which change monthly), as well as how many cars can be loaded on a specific carrier.
– You might encounter different quotes at different companies. Some might be cheaper, as they have ‘open spaces’ or last-minute cancellations.
– Other companies might seem more expensive, but this might be for valid reasons (faster transport, smaller carriers, more than one driver, better track-record and experience, etc.)
There are two types of vehicle transport
Depot-to-depot transport can be a lot cheaper, as bigger carrier trucks can be used. They are loaded at the depot, leave when fully loaded and drive direct to the destination. This takes a lot longer, as your vehicle will have to wait in line for the first available truck. The costs, time for collection and delivery will be carried by yourself, and you will have to rely on someone else to accompany you to the depots for delivery and collection. Most depots are only open during daytime, and are closed on weekends. This might mean that you will have to wait for the car to be cleared for collection. Autofreight has a streamlined process to ensure speedy intakes and collections at depots around South Africa.
Door-to-door transport is often more expensive, as carrier trucks have to drive to specific addresses for collections and deliveries. This takes up time and incur more costs. Smaller carrier trucks are used in order to get as close as possible to addresses. Transport time is a lot shorter, and most of the time specific ETA can be given.
Autofreight will commit to leaving on the designated date, even if their trucks are no fully loaded. We also employ two full-time drivers per truck. This simplifies loading and offloading, navigation and faster transport time.
The choice is yours – if your time and convenience is important to you, consider a door-to-door option. Even though it may seem more expensive, this is money well spent for a convenient, fast and effective transport option.
